Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to create a piece?
An 8.5 x 11 bust portrait will take roughly 5-10 business days to complete, but the time to complete each unique piece will vary based on complexity and the artist’s schedule.
Do you draw pets?
Yes! Pets can give us some of our best memories.
What do I need to provide?
You will need to provide a photo that you wish to have made into a portrait and a description of any additional information that will help the artist make your portrait meet your desire.
How do I chose a reference photo?
Only have a low quality photo? That’s fine! This is one of the reasons Refurbished Memories exists, to bring new life to old and poor quality pictures. Pick the photos you like! That being said, the better the photo, the better the portrait will be. Choose photos with good lighting (not too dark or bright). Not sure which to go with? Send up to five images and the artist will advise you on what will work best. Some changes can be made, such as removing a hat or changing a pose slightly, but additional reference images may be requested. For example, a picture of the subject’s head or hairstyle to fill in the gap from a removed hat. For pets, a side or three-quarter view is best, where one eye can be seen and the other is just slightly visible.
What is the payment process?
After a plan is agreed upon by the client and the artist, an invoice will be sent for a 50% down payment of the total cost of the commission. I will start your portrait after this payment has been received. When the artwork is done and the client has approved it, a second invoice will be sent for the final 50% of the cost. Payments are handled by Squarespace and can be made with all major credit cards or ACH, as well as many popular payment services.
How can I protect my artwork?
All pieces will be sprayed with a protective coating to prevent smudging before being shipped. The best way to protect your art is to get it framed (Refurbished Memories does not provide frames). Hang up your portrait somewhere out of direct sunlight and out of humid or damp conditions. Love your portrait and it will bring you joy for a long time!
